Kai Strandskov
Kai is a teacher, composer, drummer, percussionist, and performing artist with a home base in Seattle. His solo electronic project ROBOrT, is available for streaming everywhere.
Kai has performed and toured with The Bucharest Drinking Team, DAMA LIBRA, The Debaucherauntes, Stereo Creeps, The m9, and Love and Fury, in addition to numerous other projects. His style of drumming ranges from Balkan, Romani, and Klezmer to Rock to Metal.
He has also performed in stage productions, including an evening with Bucharest Drinking Team at West of Lenin, an operetta about Tesla's childhood named The Light at On the Boards, and a country western musical titled Let's Be Silver at the Pocket Theater.
Kai tends to perform on the drum kit, tupan, darbuka, riq, snare drum, and theremin--sometimes involving electronic triggers and samplers. His compositions have so far have been anything but traditional, with influences ranging from Prokofiev, to Isao Tomita, to John Zorn, and beyond. His album, ROBOrT, is a collection of original electropop compositions inspired by the theremin instrument.
With regard to teaching, Kai customizes lessons to each student's needs and goals. He tends to incorporate lessons on learning techniques, body relaxation and efficiency, rudiments, and applied theory--with the ultimate goals of having fun and being musical.
For the SCA, Kai serves as website and membership administrator, and also manages the social media presence for Instagram and twitter.
