Connecting Seattle's music creators to Community, Education, and Opportunity
The Seattle Composers Alliance presents: SCA Live Sessions — Bigger than Ourselves. Live Sessions is an ongoing concert series featuring the works of SCA members, played by rotating lineups of world-class musicians. The concerts are hosted in our favorite Seattle venues and enjoyed by all.
The next Live Sessions concert will take place on Friday July 11, 2025 at The Fremont Abbey in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle. This Live Sessions concert will be inspired by the contemplation and awe that comes from considering, worshiping or engaging with things that are bigger than ourselves, whether that be through the natural, the inter-personal, or the spiritual. The venue has a history of being a community service based church, a safe place to come and receive care beginning as early as 1914. Now, as a community arts venue, its stained glass windows and grand piano still have a sacred air to them. We will present pieces of music that share with our audience various perspectives of the human experiences of engaging in things beyond ourselves.
We will feauture solo pianist, Dylan Hayes, a top-call jazz pianist, composer, and arranger originally from San Francisco and currently based in Seattle, WA. He began playing piano at age 7 and pursued his passion at Cornish College of the Arts, graduating in 2019. During his time at Cornish, Dylan studied under esteemed musicians such as Dawn Clement, Jovino Santos Neto, and Jim Knapp. He has had the privilege of performing with notable artists including Benny Benack III, Barry Stephenson, Jay Thomas, Johnaye Kendrick, Thomas Marriott, Christopher Brown, and Chris Amberger. Dylan's debut album, Songs For Rooms And People, was released in 2020 and was recognized as one of the top ten jazz albums of the year by The Seattle Times. He leads several ensembles, including Meridian Odyssey, DX-Tet, and Vela The Band, and has received commissions to arrange works for ensembles such as the Carolina Philharmonic and the Portland Composers Jazz Ensemble.
You can check out his work with the above links, additional videos, or on his Instagram.
