Ludum Dare (Latin for “to give a game”) is an accelerated video game development competition, during which developers from around the world spend a weekend creating games based on a theme suggested by the community. It’s the longest running and largest online “game jam” in the world.
You can work alone or in a team, and you’re free to use any tools or libraries to create your game in 72 hours. There are no physical or cash prizes, but each participant retains full ownership of their game. Many teams choose to continue development, achieving financial success by releasing a completely polished game later on.
The Seattle Composers Alliance encourages interested members to attend a local jam site (TBD) and find a team to work with. Many teams will be programmer-laden and are in need of talented artists. Not only will you gain experience writing interactive music, you will help illustrate the importance of our role as musicians and composers in the video game industry. The developers you meet may lead you to future job opportunities as well!
