Orchestration, A New Approach with Norman Ludwin

August 3, 2013 @ 10:00 am5:00 pm

Come spend a day with Norman Ludwin, Los Angeles area bassist, composer, teacher, and orchestrator, on Saturday, August 3rd from 10am to 5pm at the Seattle Film Institute’s newly built space in Seattle! Norman’s skills encompass a wide range of abilities, from session player and concert bassist to orchestrator for major motion pictures. He holds a PhD in composition, and he is an instructor at the UCLA Extension Film Music Department.

Using examples of well-known concert music and film scores, he will share with us his passion for composing and orchestration, showing us his methods for analysis. Norman will also take us though a journey of the daily working life of a Hollywood orchestrator using examples of his work from Star Trek: Into Darkness, Super 8, and other major motion pictures.

Included in the entry price is a copy of Norman’s book “Orchestration, A New Approach” as well as extra handouts specific to the day’s presentations which include many examples of Norman’s technique of analysis applied to works from the masters such as Ravel and Bernard Herrmann.

Space is limited! Please register as soon as possible so that we have an accurate head count, and to make sure you get a seat! We will be in the newly built theater space at the Seattle Film Institute located near the Interbay golf course.
