Seattle Composers Alliance Announces 2nd Annual International Call for Scores Competition

December 15, 2015

In collaboration with the NOCCO String Quartet (Victoria Parker, Blayne Barnes, Heather Bentley, Eli Weinberger), and the Wayward Music Series, the Seattle Composers Alliance is happy to present the second annual Call for Scores: String Quartet. Instrumentation will consist of any combination (solo, duet, trio or quartet) of standard string quartet players, i.e. a combination of up to 2 violins, 1 viola and 1 cello, and the composition should be no more than seven minutes in length. Compositions must have been written within the past two years, never premiered. Full score and parts must be received by mail (printed) or email (in pdf format) by December 15. Submissions will be evaluated anonymously. Composer’s name must not appear anywhere on the score or parts. Judges will not have access to any submitted materials other than the printed scores during the selection process.

Up to ten winners will be selected and notified by December 31 and a performance scheduled for March 2016. Winners will receive a recorded live performance of the piece as well as a 1-year SCA membership including reduced admission to SCA-sponsored events, free admission to SCA members-only networking nights, and access to SCA members-only online articles plus videos of select live events.

Last year’s inaugural Call for Scores received string quartet entries submitted locally and from a wide geographical area including Italy, Chile and Iran, with a total of ten composers awarded with a performance by the Saint Helens String Quartet in The Chapel Performance Space at Good Shepherd Center as part of the Wayward Music Series. First place was awarded to Jiyoung Kim for “Grey-Ari and Red-Ari.”
