The Seattle Composers Alliance presents its first-annual Call for Scores Competition: Works for String Quartet

The Seattle Composers Alliance presents its first-annual Call for Scores Competition: Works for String Quartet. Scores must be received via mail by September 15, 2014. 10 winning scores will be performed by the Saint Helens String Quartet on October 21, 2014 at The Chapel at the Good Shepherd Center as a part of the Wayward Music Series, will receive a studio recording of the piece, and the #1 winner will also receive a free invitation to participate in next year’s call for scores.

Prizes:

•First place winner will receive a 1-year Full Membership, a studio recording of their piece, and a free-invitation to participate in next year’s Call for Scores. Full Membership includes priority participation in “Fly Film Making” (Seattle International Film Festival) and other composing opportunities, priority registration for Film Meets Music networking events, discount entry fees to selected events throughout the year, reduced admission to SCA-sponsored events, free admission to SCA members-only networking nights, access to SCA members-only online articles, access to SCA members-only videos of select live events, project leads from the SCA Web site’s “Need a Composer?” request form.

•Second and third place winners, in addition to the performance and recording, will receive 1-year Associate Memberships. Associate Membership includes reduced admission to SCA-sponsored events, free admission to SCA members-only networking nights, access to SCA members-only online articles, access to SCA members-only videos of select live events, project leads from the SCA Web site’s “Need a Composer?” request form.

 

Submission Rules:

•The call for score is open to all composers, with or without membership, regardless of nationality or age.

•Must be scored for 2 violins, 1 viola, and 1 violoncello.

•Compositions must have been written in the past 2 years, never premiered.

•Compositions must be 3-5 minutes in duration.

•Submissions must include 2 full scores, 1 copy of each part. Parts single sided.

•Scores will be chosen by members of the string quartet and by members of the SCA board.

•Composers should not include their name on the piece, but rather should have an identifying

phrase which matches on an included key for the scores. We will guarantee anonymity of the

participants during the selection process.

•Pieces must not be published before the performance.

•Decisions are not open to appeal.

•Material will not be returned.
