Our next Expert Speaker Series installment features internationally acclaimed, composer, pianist, and founder of music venue The Royal Room, Wayne Horvitz. Come hear Wayne speak on his compositional and improvisational approach at Seattle Drum School on June 17th, 8pm.
Recipient of the 2019 American Prize in Orchestral Composition, composer Wayne Horvitz performs extensively throughout the world. In addition to creating work for his own ensembles, he has created new work for The Kitchen, BAM, Seattle Symphony, Berlin Jazz, The Seattle Modern Orchestra, Vienna Radio Orchestra, Centrum, and ACT among others. He has received awards from MAP, Chamber Music America, McKnight Foundation, the NEA, Meet the Composer, and The Shifting Foundation among others. He is the recipient of the 2016 Doris Duke Performing Artist Award.
Past collaborators include Robin Holcomb, Bill Frisell, Reggie Watts, Butch Morris, Ikue Mori, Bobby Previte, Steve Swallow, Elliot Sharp, Yukio Suzuki, Billy Bang, Carla Bley, Eyvind Kang, John Zorn (Naked City etc.), Bill Irwin, Gus Van Sant, Paul Taylor, Rinde Eckert, and Paul Taylor. He has produced recordings for the World Saxophone Quartet, Human Feel, Bill Frisell, Fontella Bass, John Adams, Robin Holcomb, and Eddie Palmier.
