Seattle International Film Festival - Fly Filmmaking
June 10-16, 2001
The Fly Filmmaking program was once again part of the Seattle International Film Festival.
Three directors-the "flyers"-were invited to cast, shoot, edit, score, and present their films
in just six days. The Seattle Composers Alliance is the exclusive provider of music for
all films.
As composers, SCA Full Members Ben Houge, Tom McGurk, and Lonnie Mardis were chosen by lottery,
as were the assistants, SCA Associate Members Bob Ingals, Eric Borling,
and Francyl Gawryn.

"It was a crazy week, but it was
educational and a lot of fun, and it was great to meet and work with so
many interesting folks in the process. I think the coolest thing about this
whole process is that it served to get so many talented local folks
together."
"Spare Me"
Guinevere Turner, director
Kathleen McInnis, producer
music by Tom McGurk

"It was a great chance to be involved with the whole
process, something we as composers rarely get to do. I read the script voraciously,
first forward, then backward, then by removing every other word, then with
my eyes tightly shut. I wanted to get into the character's psyches, to understand
their make up, their DNA of mind, as it were. OK, that's crap. I just wanted
to know what was going on in the movie so I wouldn't screw it up too bad."
"Open House"
Dan Mirvish, director
Peter Allen, producer
music by Lonnie Mardis
